Australia-based food giant Goodman Fielder is pressing on with its efficiency drive with plans to close a bakery and streamline a fats and oils manufacturing plant.
Some 90 jobs will go as Goodman’s Geelong bakery in the site of Victoria is closed and production of packed spreads and oils at the company’s Mascot site is shifted to “larger and more efficient plants” in Brisbane and Melbourne.
“Our goal is to be the lowest cost manufacturer in all our major categories,” said Goodman Fielder MD Peter Margin.
Goodman said the restructuring would see it incur costs of A$10m (US$8.9m).
