Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has named Stephen McCutcheon as its chief executive officer.
The appointment, which was announced by FSANZ board chairman Rob Knowles, will take effect from 29 October.
Knowles said the board had selected McCutcheon for his “demonstrable expertise in science, industry and public health consumer matters”. He said those skills would strengthen the organisation, which oversees food regulations in Australia and New Zealand, and ensure it meets the challenges into the future.
Knowles is also Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health and Ageing, Senator Brett Mason, who said: “Mr McCutcheon has a good understanding of the need to maintain public confidence in the food supply system through the adequate protection of public health while facilitating innovation and technological advances in the food industry.”
McCutcheon is an executive manager at the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, where he has worked for 20 years.
