The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has today (11 February) released an issues paper on its inquiry into grocery prices.
The inquiry, which began in January, was directed to look into the structure of the grocery supply chain and competition issues for stores, in particular looking at pricing by Australia’s two biggest retailers, Woolworths and Wesfarmers, owners of Coles supermarkets.
The paper, available online, outlines the issues on which the ACCC is seeking information and describes how submissions can be made. Interested parties are invited to make submissions to the ACCC by no later than 5pm, 11 March.
On the basis of responses received, the ACCC will then hold a series of public hearings.
The inquiry is due to report to the assistant treasurer and minister for competition policy and consumer affairs by 31 July.
