Burger King, the fastfood arm of UK drinks conglomerate Diageo, is set to exit Australia. The group is considering selling its hamburger business to a local franchisee, Jack Cowin.
Cowin owns most of the 198-outlet Hungry Jack’s chain and this week flew to BK’s Miami head office to talk about buying its Australian outlets.
If the sale goes ahead, it will put an end to BK’s four-year plan to scoop a share of the nation’s A$7bn fastfood market. Diageo officials declined to comment.
