Staff members at Buttercup Bakeries, a subsidiary of Australian food giant Goodman Fielder, walked off the plant yesterday [Tuesday] after a breakdown in pay rise negotiations.
The industrial action commenced at 5am, when the bakers walked out for 24 hours. Delivery drivers left the plant for the same amount of time at 5pm.
Lina Melero, corporate affairs manager for Goodman Fielder, told the Adelaide Advertiser that Buttercup would ensure “there is no disruption for consumers during Easter”.
The workers are demanding a 4% pay rise, however Buttercup is offering just 2.5%.
