Chobani has started operations in Singapore after sending across its first shipment since the launch of its A$30m (US$28m) plant in Dandenong in south Victoria.

The firm signed a distribution agreement with Frosts Foods Singapore, which will see Australian-made Chobani products become available at various retailers including Cold Storage, one of Singapore’s “biggest grocery retailers.”

“Frosts Foods was one of many qualified organisations that pursued us for distribution rights in Singapore and other markets. For a brand that is as much about passion and entrepreneurial-ism as it is about quality and wholesome ingredients, finding the right partner was paramount”, said Peter Meek, managing director at Chobani Australia.

Under the agreement Frosts Foods will take nine out of 21 Chobani SKUs to its network of retailers. This includes the two largest grocery retailers, NTUC Fairprice and Cold Storage, from which Chobani is available at the recommended retail price of S$3.95 for the 170g pots.

The products that fall under the export agreement include 170g single-serve pots in Plain, Blood Orange, Blueberry, Honey, Mango, Raspberry, Passion Fruit and Strawberry, in fat-free yogurt and low-fat yogurt varieties. Fat-free Plain Chobani will also be available in a 907 gram multi-serve format.

“Singapore has a growing contingency of modern, health conscious locals that currently have two options when it comes to yogurt. A locally produced yogurt that is powder based, high sugar and low in fruit, or imported yogurt that is fresh milk based but predominantly high in sugar,” Meek said.
