The Sanitarium Health Food Company, which is owned by the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Australia, has bought a ten-year licence to market and distribute the Dick Smith Foods brand in the country.

Sanitarium will be in charge of the marketing, distribution, product development and quality control of items sold under the brand, said businessman Dick Smith yesterday [Tuesday].

Smith added that the philanthropic policies of Sanitarium will be blended with his brand through the deal. The range will grow while maintaining support for its Australian-owned philosophy and under the trading name Dick Smith Foods, the new company will have to pay a percentage of sales back to Dick Smith to be distributed to charities.

Sanitarium’s COO David Iredale said that a “standalone” subsidiary will be established to manage Dick Smith Foods.
