Scott, who started work at Australia’s second largest retailer as an associate in 1976, was dismissed due to breaches of the company’s code of conduct.
Scott was widely viewed as a contender for the top job at the retailer when current CEO John Fletcher steps down. His departure will come as a surprise to many of Coles’ 7,000 head office employees, 2,500 of whom will be made redundant over the next year.
