Coles Myer has sacked supermarket and merchandising manager Peter Scott, the retailer revealed today (17 November).

Scott, who started work at Australia’s second largest retailer as an associate in 1976, was dismissed due to breaches of the company’s code of conduct.

Scott was widely viewed as a contender for the top job at the retailer when current CEO John Fletcher steps down. His departure will come as a surprise to many of Coles’ 7,000 head office employees, 2,500 of whom will be made redundant over the next year.
