AUSTRALIA: First multi-species abattoir in Queensland
The first export accredited multi-species abattoir will soon open in Crows Nest, Queensland, to kill deer, ostriches, goats and emus together. The plant is the result of the expansion of an existing abattoir, and A$125,000 (US$70,500) worth of funding was provided by the Dairy Regional Assistance Programme.

More than 30 people will be employed in processing jobs at the plant, and it is hoped that its presence will offer nearby ex-dairy farmers an opportunity to diversify following the deregulation of the dairy industry.
