Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) has issued a definition of what can be classified as a meat pie.

According to the new rules, meat pies must be at least 25% meat flesh. The definition excludes offcuts and offal – meat flesh is classified as muscle, skin and fat.
The move, FSANZ said, will prevent reported “misrepresentation and deception” in the industry and promote fair trading in the category.
