CSIRO conducted the study late last year in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, and proved that cows kept in the shade and regularly sprayed with water produced between 190 and 220 more litres of milk than those animals left in the sun.

For the dairy farmers already struggling against the economics of deregulation, the news is not good. Researcher Roger James estimates that under the climate changes expected by 2030 due to global warming, overall milk output could fall by 3%. CSIRO is warning that farmers should begin investing in some sun shades for their herds.
