US doughnut maker and retailer Krispy Kreme is to open its first store outside North America this week in Sydney.

Krispy Kreme Australia chairman Lawrence Maltz said the Penrith store would be the first of three or four to open in Sydney by the end of the year.

The company plans to open ten stores in Sydney and a total of 30 across Australia, reported the Australian Associated Press.

Scott Livengood, Krispy Kreme chairman, president and CEO said last year that the company had identified a number of primary target markets as well as Australia, including Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Spain, Mexico and the UK.
