AUSTRALIA: Midfield Meats buyout abattoir, evidence of booming export trade
Over two years ago, an export abattoir in Mt Schank, SA, went into receivership with the loss of around 200 jobs. Now it has been bought out by Warrnambool-based Midfield Meats and is set to be reopened within the next six months, evidence of the rapidly growing SA meat industry.

Colin McKenna, managing director of Midfield Meats, revealed that the company exports 80% of its production and the market is growing considerably as consumer concerns over animal diseases spread through Europe.
