Australian milk processor National Foods has defended its appeal against a decision that allows dairy farmers to bargain collectively.

Natfoods is questioning the decision, notably seeking clarification on two conditions. Spokesman Ian Greenshields said the wording of the agreement was confusing, particularly about what was meant by “shared community interest” and “cross-regional” collective bargaining activities.
Farmers have reacted angrily to the appeal, as they claim it will delay collective bargaining by at least a year.
National Party senator Ron Boswell said he was disappointed at the appeal.
Senator Boswell said no other major processors such as Pauls and Dairy Farmers, or major retailers, had sought to appeal, reported the Herald and Weekly Times.
