Australian potato processor Simplot Ltd is currently negotiating a manufacturing alliance with New Zealand processor Mr. Chips Holdings Ltd.
Simplot is expected to provide the technical assistance to Mr. Chips’ expanding foodservice and fastfood restaurant businesses. This is likely to enable Simplot to expand its manufacturing capacity in the highly competitive New Zealand market.
Graeme Edwards, chairman of Mr. Chips, revealed that the companies would achieve mutual benefits through a joining together of Simplot’s technical and marketing expertise with Mr. Chips’ local knowledge.
Simplot finalised its acquisition of the New Zealand operations of the Birds Eye potato products from Unilever on Monday, and welcomed an alliance with another NZ processor. CEO Chris Miller commented: “A link up with Mr. Chips makes a lot of sense as we develop our Birds Eye brand.”
