Australian beef producers are optimistic that the hugely successful promotion running in the Japanese restaurants of US fastfood giant will give them a significant export boost.

Last week, just-food.com reported on a hamburger promotion where items were retailing for as little as ¥59 (US$0.49). Sales rose impressively in response to the promotion, with a record 30.1 million customers visiting restaurants.

Queensland Primary Industries Minister Henry Palaszczuk said yesterday [Sunday] that Australian beef sales to Japan were likely to soar, as McDonald’s Japan is one of the world’s largest buyers of Australian beef, buying more than 40,000 tonnes each year. This accounts for more than 10% of Australian exports to Japan.

The good news comes on top of reports that beef sales to Japan in July were up 11% on June, reported the Australian media.
