Consolidated Meat Group’s abattoir at Rockhampton, which has been closed since December 2001, could reopen within a month – if workers agree to accept new working terms, which include lower wages.

CEO Ray O’Dell said it is now up to employees to decide whether they find the new employment conditions acceptable or not.

Rockhampton is Australia’s second largest abattoir, worth an estimated A$1m (US$535,100) per week to the city’s economy.
