A new vodka-flavoured ice cream available in Victoria has been slammed by anti-drugs campaigners who say the product will introduce children to the tastes of alcohol at too young an age.

Australian ice cream maker Streets, a brand of Anglo-Dutch consumer goods giant Unilever, said its “Illicit Vodka Cranberry Magnum” contains no alcohol and is designed for adults.

However, Geoff Munro, director of the Community Alcohol Action Network, said ice cream was a “quintessential” children’s product and accused Streets of ignoring the country’s alcohol-related problems, reported the Australian Associated Press.

Last year, Australian biscuit maker Arnott’s was criticised for launching Tia Maria and Kahlua-flavoured versions of its popular Tim Tam biscuits.
