Australian supermarket giant Woolworths has posted a 10% increase in sales for the first eight weeks of the current financial year.

The company’s managing director Roger Corbett stressed however: “It is too early to draw any detailed conclusions as to the implications of these numbers for the full year.”

In Monday’s shareholders report, Woolworths predicted double-digit growth for the year as a whole.

Woolworths will be better able to report on business by the time of its annual meeting in Brisbane on 23 November, said Corbett.
