Belgium-based retailer Colruyt has booked an increase in sales for the first nine months of its financial year.

Consolidated sales in the period to the end of December climbed by 7.4% to reach EUR5.9bn (US$8.2bn), the supermarket chain reported this week.

Colruyt’s store stores saw turnover grow by 6.2% to EUR4.52bn. Sales from its wholesale and foodservice division increased by 2.2% to reach EUR968.2m. This was driven by the performance of its Spar stores in France.

Sales from other activities accounted for EUR504.4m of total sales, a 27.1% increase on the prior-year period. This was down to higher volumes and pricing from the firm’s service stations, and three openings.

At the end of the period, the group had 224 Colruyt stores, 76 OKay stores and 7 Bio-Planet stores in Belgium. In France, Colruyt had 61 Beetle and namesake stores, and 44 non-food DreamLand stores across both Belgium and France.
