Belgium-based retail group Delhaize has completed the sale of its Czech business to German retailer Rewe.
Delhaize agreed to sell Delvita in November but the transaction had to receive EU approval. European competition authorities gave the deal the green light in April.
Delhaize said yesterday (31 May) that it had closed the deal with Rewe. The German group will pay Delhaize some EUR100m (US$134m) for the Delvita business.
Delvita runs just under 100 stores in the Czech Republic. The sale will see Rewe own Delvita stores in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Rewe acquired the Slovakian outlets in 2005.
