Delhaize, the Belgium-based retailer, has named beer industry executive Stéfan Descheemaeker as its new CFO.
Descheemaeker, who joins Delhaize from Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world’s largest brewer, will take up the role on 5 January.
The 48-year-old replaces Craig Owens, who left Delhaize in September.
Descheemaeker joined Anheuser-Busch InBev forerunner Interbrew in 1996 and saw the company grow into the world’s biggest beer maker through its 2004 merger with Brazil’s AmBev and this year’s takeover of Budweiser maker Anheuser-Busch.
Delhaize president and CEO Pierre-Olivier Beckers said Descheemaeker’s experience in Europe and North America – where the retailer owns the Food Lion and Hannaford chains – would help the business.
