Belgium-based retailer Delhaize has announced that it is opening a new chain of Shop & Go convenience stores in Romania.

Delhaize has confirmed that the first store opened this month and the second is due to open tomorrow (17 December). Both are located in Bucharest.

A spokesperson for Delhaize said it is only opening two stores for the moment. He declined to comment on plans to expand further but said the store openings were part of the firm’s expansion plans in Romania.

“We are putting the emphasis on the new format and new markets” he added.

Earlier this week, Delhaize announced it had bought two stores in Romania from the Primavera supermarket chain.
