Belgium based retailer Delhaize has announced that the head of its Greek and Romanian businesses will join its executive committee.

The appointment, which comes into effect today (15 January), will see Kostas Macheras join Delhaize’s board.

“This promotion reflects the impressive achievements of Kostas Macheras and the highly respected contribution of Alfa-Beta to the growth of the Delhaize Group”, said Pierre-Olivier Beckers, president and CEO.

Macheras is currently CEO of Alfa-Beta Vassilopoulos and Mega Image. He has previously held a number of positions at food retailers and manufacturers, including Mars Inc and Chipita International.

Yesterday, Delhaize said it would open up to 18 stores in Greece this year as it reworks its store networks in Europe and in the US.
