Turkey processor Bernard Matthews is to increase production capacity at its Norfolk site.

The plant was previously open for three months a year only – around the Christmas period – but a spokesperson told just-food increased demand for products has prompted the company to open the factory throughout the year.

The move will also result in 90 new permanent roles. The spokesperson could not disclose how much capacity would increase.

In a statement, CEO Rob Burnett said: “Over the last few years we have set ourselves the challenge of returning to profitability and a key part of this is growing the demand for our products all year round – not simply at Christmas. This strategy has begun to bear fruit and we will be effectively and profitably utilising the capacity at our Great Witchingham site.”
