Australian dairy processor United Dairy Power’s plants at Murray Bridge and Jervois have reportedly been acquired by Adelaide-based Beston Global Food Company.

Local reports said today (17 June) Beston chief Roger Sexton expects to reopen the plants in September, initially employing 12 people. The aim is to return the business to manufacturing 100m litres of milk as soon as possible, Sexton said in a report carried by local newspaper AdelaideNow.

UDP employed about 130 staff and contractors in Murray Bridge and Jervois before its owning company – Hong-Kong’s Five Star United Food – was placed into receivership in late April. Speaking to just-food at the end of last year, Marcus Derwin, managing director at UDP said the future was bright for UDP with “a good business, a good supply chain and a strong brand”.

Sexton said Beston will “invest significant capital” in the plants over the next three years. The plants will produce cheddar, milk powder and mozzarella cheese.
