Grupo Bimbo has opened a new EUR50m (US$54.6) bakery in Spain.
The Mexican baker said the plant, located in Azuqueca de Henares, is the company's "most advanced" in Europe and its largest facility in Spain. It includes a bread line with the capacity to produce up to 15,000 units per hour. The 31,000 square metre site also houses a logistics centre that will, Bimbo said, strengthen its distribution capabilities in the central region of the Iberian peninsula.
"The opening of this plant in Spain reinforces our commitment to continue to innovate and deliver products to our customers with the highest quality and freshness," remarked Daniel Servitje, chairman and CEO of Grupo Bimbo.
Jose Manuel Gonzalez Guzman, general manager of Bimbo Iberia, added the facility is an "important step" for the company in Spain as the company works towards "excellence… everyday".
Bimbo already operates eight production facilities in the Iberian Peninsula, Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands.
