Exports of Brazilian beef rose 95% to 190,400 tonnes in August compared to the same month of last year.
According to the Brazilian Association of Beef Exporters (Abiec), beef shipment volumes in August rose 12% from the 170,000 tonnes exported in July, reported Reuters.
The biggest market for Brazilian beef in August was Russia, which imported 30,300 tonnes, followed by Chile and Iran.
Abiec president Marcus Vinicius Pratini de Moraes said the results fulfilled Abiec’s estimates for export revenues and volumes for 2004.
Abiec has forecast Brazil to export 1.7 million tonnes of beef in 2004, worth around US$2.4bn in revenues. In the January to August period, beef exports were 1.2 million tonnes, worth $1.55bn.
