JBS, the world’s largest beef producer, swung back into the black in 2012, helped by its businesses across South America and by a profitable performance from its US poultry unit.
The Brazil-based group booked adjusted net earnings of BRL1.26bn, compared to a loss of BRL75.7m in 2011, when US poultry arm Pilgrim’s Pride hit its results.
EBITDA was up 40% at BRL4.4bn, with earnings up from JBS Mercosul – its business in markets including Brazil and Argentina – and with US poultry unit Pilgrim’s Pride itself swinging back into the black.
Revenue increased 22.5% to BRL75.7bn. All of JBS’s divisions posted higher sales.
