Brazilian food group Marfrig said today (25 May) that its Moy Park arm is set to buy Northern Irish processor O’Kane Poultry.

Marfrig said the GBP13m (US$18.6m) deal would be made through subsidiaries Marfrig Europe and UK meat firm Moy Park, which the Brazilian group bought in 2008.

The acquisition will see the company take on a feed mill, two hatcheries, one processing facility and one laboratory testing facility.

O’Kane Poultry processes 120,000 chickens and 5,000 turkeys a day and generated GBP132m in sales in 2009.

“The portfolio of products comprise more than 500 SKUs among fresh and further processed chicken and turkey items and ready to eat meals, supplying both the retail and foodservice sector with branded and own label products,” Marfrig said.
