Brazilian firm Vigor will attain a dairy plant local food giant BRF was building in Rio de Janeiro state, a source said today.
BRF started the project in Barra do Piraí in 2011 with a BRL70m investment for its brand Elegê. However, in February, the company began to examine strategic alternatives for its dairy products division, including the partial sale of its assets.
The firm declined making further comments to just-food on the review.
The Barra do Piraí City Hall, owner of the land on which the part-finished plant stands, decided to give it in concession to Vigor.
Gilberto Xandó, Vigor’s CEO, said the company last year started its “strategic expansion” beyond the state of São Paulo.
“The company acquired 50% of Itambé and Rio de Janeiro is the second state in the share of sales force, only behind São Paulo, thereby justifying the deployment of this new plant.”
