Swiss food giant Nestlé is to launch new products in Bulgaria after 2005, according to the head of Nestlé Sofia, the company’s local operation.

Yannis Lazaridis, general director of Nestlé Sofia, said the company plans to introduce baby food, ice cream and bottled water from 2005, reported the Bulgarian News Digest. Before then, the company will focus on improving its existing products.

Nestlé entered Bulgaria in 1994 with the acquisition of local chocolate maker Malchika.

Nestlé Sofia had 2002 turnover of US$71.1m, with 65% of its production being sold on the domestic market and the remainder exported to central Europe.
