The Big Gulp soft drink marketed by the convenience store giant 7-Eleven actually contains less product than advertised, according to an unemployed Calgary man who says that he discovered the soda shortfall while messing around one day.
Keith Alexander told the Calgary Sun: “To be exact they were 79.6 ml, or about six cents a cup, short.
“They’d been that way across the country for the last four years at least and they’ve basically been ripping us off.”
Looking at the bigger picture, the 55 7-Eleven convenience stores in Calgary that each sell between 50 and 60 Big Gulps every day are saving the company around C$66,000 (US$42,781) a year with the shortfall.
Trish Lee, a spokeswoman for 7-Eleven Canada, told the paper that the company is aware of the mistake and will take a dime off the price of all Gulp products at least until the end of June to apologise to consumers.
