The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Maurer’s Meats Ltd. are warning the public not to consume Maurer’s brand vacuum packed Beer Sausage Sticks and Pepperoni Sticks, because it is possible that these products support the growth of bacteria responsible for botulism in humans.
The affected products were sold without the “KEEP REFRIGERATED” declaration on the labels. Products with the “KEEP REFRIGERATED” declaration are not affected by this recall.
The Beer Sausage Sticks and the Pepperoni Sticks affected by this alert are sold with various best before dates and can be identified by the ten numbers of the UPC located directly under the bar code.

Beer Sausage Sticks sold in packages containing 1 unit – UPC 00103 00125
Beer Sausage Sticks sold in packages containing 6 or 7 units – UPC 00103 00499
Beer Sausage Sticks sold in packages containing 2 units – UPC 00103 00299
Pepperoni Sticks sold in packages containing 1 unit – UPC 00102 80100
Pepperoni Sticks sold in packages containing 6 or 7 units – UPC 00102 80499
Pepperoni Sticks sold in packages containing 2 units – UPC 00102 80299

Foods contaminated with C. botulinum may not look or smell spoiled. Botulism is a life-threatening illness caused by toxins produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria. Consumers should dispose of the remaining products immediately or return products to the point of purchase for a refund.
