The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning consumers not to consume “Sprouts Alive” and “Sun sprout” brands of sprouts bearing the code EX27 03, because the products may contain the bacteria responsible for causing salmonellosis in humans.

The manufacturer, Oakville, Ontario-based Sunsprout Natural Foods, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The affected products have been distributed in Ontario and New Brunswick.
Food contaminated with Salmonella will not look or smell spoiled. Salmonellosis is a potentially life-threatening illness caused by Salmonella bacteria. Young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Common symptoms of Salmonella infection are nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea although more serious consequences are possible, however there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
