Canadian convenience store operator Couche-Tard has confirmed that it is on the look out for “medium sized” acquisitions in the US.

“We are hoping to achieve mid-sized acquisitions in the US market,” a spokesperson for the c-store operator said.

“We believe there is still scope for us to expand in the States as we see the possibility of consolidation in the convenience market,” the company added.

The highly acquisitive group currently operates 5,690 convenience stores in North America.

Speaking at the Canadian Club of Montreal CEO Alain Bouchard said that the company is seeking the “right deal” in the US.

“There’s still plenty of room for growth in the US, and we’re always looking closely at what’s still a fragmented industry,” Bouchard reportedly said. “It’s not an easy task to negotiate the right deal, and you have to exercise extreme care.”

Couche-Tard recently signed a franchise and licensing deal with GR Vietnam International that will see its Circle K banner opening in Vietnam.
