The Federal court of Canada has imposed fines totalling C$3.875m (US$2.466m) on four US and European vitamin makers.


The fines have been imposed on the companies for conspiring to fix prices and allocating market share for vitamin B3 and ten other vitamin and food products sold in bulk in Canada from 1992 until 1998.


Degussa of Germany, was ordered to pay a fine of $2.5m while Lonza of Switzerland was fined $1.1m. Nepera and Reilly Industries of the United States were fined $240,000 and $35,000 respectively.


Also, the court imposed a fine of C$150,000 to Dr Kuno Sommer, former senior executive at Hoffmann-La Roche, for related offences between 1991 and 1997.
