Eating junk food and following a high fat diet may damage the learning and memory
areas of the brain, according to a recent study by researchers at the University
of Toronto.

Findings in the March issue of Neurobiology of Learning and Memory, suggest
the latest Hollywood fad of eating little carbohydrates and fruit, whilst encouraging
high fat food such as butter, bacon and cheese is associated with not feeding
the brain the energy it needs.

The study – which involved the feeding and testing of rats – concluded that
the ability to remember phone numbers or recall fact are affected. "Chronic
intake of high-fat diets is associated with cognitive deficits. Our brain needs
glucose in order to function," author Carol Greenwood told Canada’s National
Post.
