A new industry report shows Canadian food companies are offering healthier food choices, with 62% introducing new healthy products, and some 41% of firms launching products with less fat.
Companies have responded to Canadians’ demand for help in eating healthy, balanced diets by reformulating and creating new products.
Twenty-three percent of companies introduced portion-size changes, with new launches including Omega-3 products; fibre and calcium-added products, and foods lower in calories and salt.
Three quarters of companies surveyed financially support research and programs related to healthy living, and more than half sponsor children’s physical activity programs. Almost all large food companies reported using websites and telephone support to provide health and nutrition information to consumers.
