US food giant H.J. Heinz has announced that its Canadian subsidiary has acquired the Canadian assets of Unifine Richardson, a subsidiary of Royal Cosun Group.

Based in St. Marys, Ontario, the Richardson business manufactures and sells salad dressings, sauces, and dessert toppings to major Canadian foodservice customers. The company was acquired by Royal Cosun in 1998.

Heinz said the acquisition “demonstrates Heinz Canada’s commitment to effectively support the growing foodservice industry with on-trend products and proprietary menu solutions”. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Heinz also said it expects its third-quarter earnings to be in line with previous estimates. The company is scheduled to release its third-quarter results on 24 February.
