Canadian food and drink firm Lassonde Industries has booked an increase in first-half profits helped by strong sales growth in the second quarter.

For the first half ended 28 June, Lassonde reported a net profit of C$19.4m (US$17.7m), compared with C$17.8m for the same period a year earlier. Operating profit was up at CA$36.1m, against C$33.3m.

Sales grew 3.5% to C$499.1m. Revenue growth accelerated in the second quarter, with sales up 5.4% to C$272.4m. Lassonde said private-label sales, plus the benefit from foreign exchange, helped offset lower sales of branded lines.
