Loblaws, Canada’s leading grocery chain operator, announced that its garden centres will be clean of chemical pesticides by next year.

Loblaws is scheduled to make the announcement at a garden and flower show in Toronto, according to reports in the Canadian press. The supermarket chain operates 440 garden centres across Canada.

The chemical pesticides will be replaced with organic counterparts, the group said. The move comes in response to growing pressure from municipalities to prohibit the use of chemical pesticides on public and private property.
