Mark Milne, a veteran of the prairie pork industry, will assume the position of COO of Heartland Pork, a wholly-owned subsidiary of agribusiness giant Saskatchewan Wheat Pool (SWP).

Milne will take on the role effective 12 August.

He comes to Heartland from his position as president and CEO of K Line Management in Winkler, Manitoba, where he was responsible for developing a complete swine production system, including pig, data and marketing analysis and tracking, as well as infrastructure development. He also managed the financing and investor development needs.

“Milne brings a tremendous amount of experience and expertise in both hog production and business management,” said SWP’s CEO Mayo Schmidt: “He’s been in the agricultural industry for more than 20 years, developing profitable relationships and forging strategic alliances with key players in the industry.”

Heartland Pork Group consists of seven hog production facilities across western Canada. In fiscal 2001, its first full year of operations, Heartland marketed almost 350,000 finished hogs, more than double the volume for the prior year.
