Chip maker McCain Foods has promoted COO Dirk Van de Put to president and CEO of the company.

The Canada-based group said today (3 June) that Van de Put would formally replace Dale Morrison next month.

Van de Put, a former executive at Danone and Mars Inc, joined McCain from pharmaceutical company Novartis last year.

McCain chairman Allison McCain called the appointment “a planned transition”.

“We were delighted to attract someone of Dirk’s calibre to McCain Foods,” he said. “Dirk has been working closely with Dale over the past year getting to know our people, our business and our opportunities. This planned transition will enable us to continue our focus on growing the McCain business around the world.”

Morrison, who has spent years leading the company, is to become a founding partner in a private-equity firm, the business said.
