The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is re-issuing the Alert of December 22, 2001 due to the identification of a new importer leading to this recall. The CFIA is warning consumers not to consume Merci brand chocolates made in Germany due to the possible presence of salmonella.
The following products are affected by this recall.

The importer, Omega Food Importers Co. Ltd., London, Ontario is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the market place. The importer has distributed these products in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec.
In Canada, no Salmonella illnesses associated with the Merci Chocolates have been reported to the CFIA.
Food contaminated with Salmonella bacteria may not look or smell spoiled. Consumers should dispose of remaining products immediately. The products should not be consumed by humans or animals. Common symptoms of Salmonella infection are nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea although more serious consequences are possible.
