The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is re-issuing the Alert of December 22, 2001 due to the identification of a new importer leading to this recall. The CFIA is warning consumers not to consume Merci brand chocolates made in Germany due to the possible presence of salmonella.
The following products are affected by this recall.
Brand Lot code
Merci Vielfalt – 01-04-02 and 01-05-02
Merci Pur – 01-04-02 and 01-05-02
The importer, Omega Food Importers Co. Ltd., London, Ontario is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the market place. The importer has distributed these products in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec.
In Canada, no Salmonella illnesses associated with the Merci Chocolates have been reported to the CFIA.
