The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning consumers not to consume MÉRITE and Super C brands of frankfurters with a best-before date OC 21 as they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

MÉRITE brand frankfurters are sold in 375 g packages and bear the establishment code CANADA 223 and UPC 0 68879 33028 4. Super C brand frankfurters are also sold in 375 g packages and establishment code CANADA 223 but with UPC 0 62609 59100 6.


These products are distributed in Quebec only and have been voluntarily recalled by the Briska Inc, Montreal.


Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled. These products should not be consumed. Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause Listeriosis. Pregnant women, young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, nausea and adverse fetal effects.


There have been no illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.


The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of this recall.
