Wasylycia-Leis was cited in The Calgary Sun newspaper as saying: “We should know enough by now by the experience of Britain how when precautions aren’t taken we can end up with a devastating situation.”

The MP argued that not enough precautions had been taken to ensure that material that may cause mad cow disease is not getting into Canada’s farm animal feed. According to Wasylycia-Leis, the executive vice-president of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Andre Gravel, has admitted that it is possible that deer and elk killed on the nation’s roads are being rendered into products that are then sold to farm feed makers.
