The provincial government in British Columbia has introduced new legislation designed to revamp the area’s food safety system.

Health services minister Colin Hansen told the Vancouver Province newspaper that the new system will be based on “outcome-based regulations” to enable the food industry to take more “innovative approaches” and meet the established standards.

The government expects the new legislation to reduce the current number of regulations governing food safety in BC by half.
