Frito-Lay, PepsiCo’s snacks arm, has unveiled its 100% compostable chips bag for the SunChips brand.
The move, announced yesterday (3 February) but first mooted back in April, is a “world first”, the company claimed, and will change the way consumers “hear, see and think about product packaging in the future”.
From next month, SunChips packaging in Canada will be made from more than 90% renewable, plant-based materials.
The package will break down into compost in a hot, active compost pile in around 14 weeks.
The company even said the new packaging had a “unique sound”, which it dubbed “the sound of green”.
“In order to continue to cut our environmental impact as a company, finding sustainable packaging solutions was a must,” said Marc Guay, president of Frito Lay Canada.
